Olive Designs, LLC was originally formed in 1998 as a commercial seating and table manufacturing company. It was recognized as being a pioneer in green manufacturing practices. David Mahood formed Olive Designs after having spent a decade in commercial furnishings sales and management. The company's 1998 environmental statement addressed Mahood's early commitment to sustainability: "We at Olive Designs envision a time when the effect of the Industrial Revolution on the environment can be halted... Fundamental to the company and to the environment is the impact that manufacturing of the 21st century will have on the earth."
